I am not a runner.

So I started running this morning before work. I am not (nor have I ever really been) a runner. Besides the huffing, puffing and coughing I did when back in the house, which made me sound like a smoker, I actually found it quite invigorating and enjoyable.

And I really liked being out before everyone else. I didn't encounter any moving cars and only saw one other person outside--another runner. Getting to see the streets around our house before daylight touches them, listening to my mp3 player, breathing so loudly that I am sure sleeping people inside the houses can hear me--all of this was splendid.

It took a while after the brief jog to feel good (though I didn't feel bad). After I got ready for work, I felt really invigorated and alive. I only went around the block twice, running half and fast-walking the other half of each lap (you die-hard runners are probably laughing right now!). But it was nice, and I hope to continue.

Maybe I will run three sides of the block each time around tomorrow morning.

Maybe by the end of the week I will get up to three laps or four.

And if I get up to run early on Saturday morning...that means I will be awake to hit the westside Wichita Farmer's Market. Yay for the FM being back! Bonus!

  1. Haha, I just started running again this morning too - must be the weather. I actually DID used to run but am so out of shape now I was hacking all day too. Good luck! Keep at it - it really is great to get an early and invigorating start to the day, and I find it helps with metabolism throughout the day.
