Vegan MoFo Approacheth!

Which doesn't sound like a real word BUT IS! I'm running with it.

I signed up earlier this week for the upcoming Vegan MoFo (Vegan Month of Food--my 4th year participating!), and if you're interested in the slightest and feel you could keep up with the posts, YOU SHOULD, TOO!

As you may already know, Vegan MoFo is a function in which awesome bloggers post daily about vegan food, recipes, food reviews, cookbooks, etc. It typically has to be about vegan food. My first year (2010) it was held in November, then moved to October for the next two years. This year, it's in September (so soon!!!!). They're moving it up by a month each year to give people the change to cook with different foods, in different seasons, and for different holidays. I've always wanted to see an additional Vegan MoFo in the spring, so this is a wonderful idea!

Here are some drool-worthy food photos from my VMF last year:

I really enjoyed what I did last year (see the lot of my posts here: Vegan MoFo 2012). Cooking through an historic cookbook proved to be an exciting challenge, and I learned tons about the foods used, how to veganize older recipes, and about the author herself. I'm still working out exactly what I'll make this year, but it's along the same lines. I plan to veganize recipes out of my mother's FAVORITE cookbook EVA that she purchased new in the 1970s, Gems From the Wheat State. It's one of the many, MANY local cookbooks organized by groups that come out each year.

Many food memories from my childhood and adolescence are due to my mother cooking from this particular cookbook. Mom's having a tough time with her health, so this Vegan MoFo is for her. Love you, Mom!

{Mom and I at the KS State Fair...2002? 2003?}

You should have seen my face back in May when I found an almost-pristine copy of the same cookbook at a book fair here in Wichita. Shock cannot begin to describe it...glee sounds more appropriate :D

Anyway, I'm THRILLED to begin Vegan MoFo 2013 and am going to have a few recipes veganized and made in advance since September is a busy month. I'm ready to blog about food again!

Happy Cooking! Go sign your blogup...now! Do it!
