It's time for a beverage recipe from Gems from the Wheat State. This one's literally chock-full of different flavors and would be awesome for autumn. I kept thinking to myself over the past week, "It's September, and while it's still hot outside, I feel the need to autumnize my cooking." (Autumnize probably isn't a word, but still!)
So, that's where this recipe came from. I used one more flavor of juice, removed some ingredients, and added lavender. I'll have several other such autumnal recipes this week for you to try. It's time to break out spiced-everything, people.
Spiced Cran-Apple-Grape Juice with Lavender
adapted from Gems from the Wheat State, pg. F15, contributor Leona Layne
1 cinnamon stick, broken
1/2 tsp whole cloves
1/2 tsp dried lavender buds
12 oz apple juice
24 oz cranberry-grape juice
1/4 cup agave
Tie up broken cinnamon stock, cloves, and lavender buds into a square of cheesecloth. In a saucepan, add juices, agave, and spice bag and heat to boiling. Once boiling, reduce heat and cover. Let simmer for about 5 minutes. Remove spice bag.
Try this hot. It's AMAZING and warming and uplifting. And do make sure to throw in a cinnamon stick while drinking. You know, to make it even more autumnal :)
